Welcome to Vantastics.co.uk, our team website for the 2005 Mongol Rally.

The Mongol Rally is a simple yet completely insane idea. The challenge is simply to drive from London to Mongolia.

Now given a big budget and lots of time this would be a fairly simple, if time consuming task, and some may even describe it as a holiday. Lease your expedition prepared 4x4, hire some local guides, fire up the GPS and satelite phone, give the butler a couple of months holiday and off you go...

If we had one of these it would be easy!

However, the competitors* in the Mongol Rally don't have expedition prepared 4x4's, or guides, or GPS navigation and they probably don't have butlers either. That would make it far too easy. Our challenge is to get to Mongolia in a car with just enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding, engines of more than 1litre are not allowed (well they are, but if you bring one you're a wimp). We hope to be using a vantastic Bedford Rascal, as driven by Sooty, and as tipped over by vandals everywhere.

It's quite a long way when you look from space.

The second challenge is to get there and back whilst still having a job, now luckily I have my own business, so I can skive off quite easily, but for most people this isn't possible so the aim is to get there and back in about three and a half weeks. So that's 10, 000 miles, in a banger, in 3 weeks, easy...

The question on most poeple's lips right now has got to be why? Why spend all of your holiday time cooped up in a small car in temperatures up to 40C? To be fair, it's a good question that can only be answered by looking at the work done by Send a Cow and Save the Children, two of the charities we will be rasing money for. When we have so much it is very easy to forget that so many have so little, by driving to mongolia we hope to raise lot's of money to help these people.
